Buzzword in the hot tub!

Just got back from a great trip to vail where Buzzword Frenzy was the best thing to have on the lifts ever. Great way to pass the time on the lift and a cool way to start talking to girls on the lift with us.

After apres skiing, our ritual was to hit the hottub with beers. What would have been exception would have been some rousing games of Buzzword Frenzy. Unfortunately, iPhone/iPod touch owners in our group were too scared of messing up the phone.

Wish i had read THIS article about waterproofing an iPhone before the trip!

Very excited about the new iPhone SDK 3.0. Some of the features really open up the doors from exciting products. A lot of new ideas are springing up but a lot of ideas around excellent enhancements to BWF are also being formulated.

Drinking games with Buzzword Frenzy...

Thought of a great variation on Hot Potato to make it a drinking game. The losing team for a round has to review the words and see which word took the longest to clear. The team then has to drink that number of seconds starting with the person who the the device ended on. Even better would be to take the longest time from either team. That way if the winning team really was the crappier team and just got lucky, you would be adding insult to injury by making the better team drink for the winning team’s long word time… sweet.

Tips - association of sounds

It is against the rules to say “sounds like” or “rhymes with”, but you can make your teammates say words out loud that you think will trigger their memory.

Example: Say the word that comes up is “Sony stereo”. I can get them to say “Sony” fairly easily - “this is the company that created the Playstation and Walkman”. When it comes to stereo though, my teammates may say “audio”, “mp3 player”, “sound system”, etc. After they dance around the word for a while and don’t seem to be getting to it, I may give them the clue “this is what you do when you’re looking intensely at someone.” “STARE. OHHHHh. stereo!”

Legal and great way to get your teammates minds working the way you want them to.

Tutorial - the end of a round (hot potato)

A couple details that should be clarified around the steps following a round of hot potato:

At the end of a round of hot potato, the team who won that round has 10 seconds to steal the last word. The team should discuss what they want to submit as their one guess and then tell person with the device. Because of this, players must resist the urge to react when their teammates don’t guess a word and yell out “NOoooo… it was COWBOY HAT!!!” when time runs out so that they don’t ruin the other team’s chances to steal.

Important: the next round should start with the same player that the last round ended with (last player on the losing team).

If one team turns out to be much better than another team, try playing sprint or time trial and setting a handicap for the better team by giving that team less time or more words.

Buzzword Frenzy can be fun with as little as 2 or 3 people. Set Time Trial or Sprint to the “Best Overall” mode and play as one team trying to better your score every time.
